HILLIES V HILLS @ BORONIA :ROUND ELEVEN REVIEW

It is a testament to the progress of Hunters Hill in 2009 that 5 from 5 victories at Boronia on Saturday now constitutes a pass mark on our weekly report card. What is particularly pleasing is that the Black and Whites gave up just 16 points over five matches and conceded just one try in a competition game.

The Fifths are one of the most enjoyable teams to watch in the club. Their performance on Saturday was typical HH5s, full of grit, character and enough flashes of brilliance to get them over the line. Dustin Mason was excellent, Will Wright a schemer and Viren Fernando courageous in a solid W.

The Fours returned to the winners circle with a drastically altered team enriched with a number of players returning from injury, absence or "retirement". The addition of club stalwart Ron White at number 10 forced Scott Keenan wider, space he savoured in an explosive performance at outside centre. Kane Nicholson scored a stupendous try while the wily Viren Fernando was introduced as a late pinch hitter to gain his 3rd player point of the day. The MOM honour would go to the big man however, Hayden Brown the foundation stone on which Hills crumbled.

Another solid win in the Thirds. Another win to nil.  At least the sight of Jono Gelling leading the team out for his 100th match was a new look. Matt Taka got the cash as the man of the match. Is he Boronia's Rodney So'oialo?

The Twos kept the wins coming in a tight affair. Alex Vertoudakis began his senior captaincy career with a victory and also claimed his 3rd consecutive MOM honours. The Seconds now have a clear lead in the Farrant Cup.

In First Grade, Hunters Hill produced their first shut-out in a number of years, punishing Hills 45-0 on a muddy Boronia still recovering after the recent heavy rain. New Zealand pair Sam McLennan and Sam Henry scored 25 points between them and with No. 8 Alex Light, flyhalf Dave Marshall and outside backs Dan Casa and Matt Lane also crossing, Hillies did more than enough to secure their 5 ladder points.

While the wash-out against Epping makes calculating our actual standing difficult, Saturday's has really only consolidated our position rather than improved it. There remains a number of key dates this season and none more important than our visit to Balmain this weekend. Lets go get them.

CLUB CAPTAIN'S COLUMN- QUIZ WEEK

This Saturday night Hunters Hill Rugby will host it's annual trivia night, a fantastic event where we can relax as a club, enjoy each other's company and be safe in the knowledge that Hunters Hill team is almost guaranteed to win.

In the interests of warming up the minds for this great event (get your tickets now), I have devised a very ordinary rugby-themed trivia quiz to whet the appetite. The first person to email me with a full set of correct responses will receive a signed photo of Dave Weston.

Trivia buffs: go to work!

1) Why are some members of a Springbok touring squad prohibited from wearing their Springbok Blazers? (they may only wear their blazer over their shoulders and not put their arms in the sleeves)?

2) What are Jonny Wilkinson's parent's names?

3) Who is ranked higher on the international rugby board's rankings: The USA or Moldova?

4) What does the Brigham Young University Football team in Provo, Utah have in common with the All Blacks?

5) How many games have the British Lions lost in a row?

6) What do Matt Dunning, John Candy and Bryan Adams have in common?

7) In 2009, Hunters Hill First Grade have secured a bonus point for scoring 4 or more tries in nine consecutive games. How many times did Hunters Hill achieve this feat last season?
