Vs Waverley
HUNTERS Hill Rugby Club held their annual Ladies Day at Boronia Park Oval last Saturday and celebrated with resounding victories over Waverley in the NSW Suburban Rugby competition.
The Hillies' first grade XV hammered Waverley 51-31 and were led out by Alex Light, making his 100th first grade appearance for the club.
At half time, Hillies were looking behind the pace and had let Waverley mount an impressive and well deserved lead. Sloppy defence around the breakdown meant that Hunters Hill had it all to do after the interval. Both sides took it in turns to score points in the opening ten minutes until Colman Taylor crossed the line to even the scores 31-31.
Hillies then put on a show of running rugby - taking advantage of the gaps opening up by a tiring Waverley. Dan Casa crossed the line three times; Taylor added a second to his tally and further tries from David Marshall, La La Haveau and Tom Kellaway secured an impressive Hillies win.
Hunters Hill seconds erased memories of the 0-0 draw with Hornsby by defeating second placed Waverley 41-8 to remain on top of the table. The Hillies looked in fine form with tries from Nick Roach, Thomas Cuniowski, Jordan Butler, James Hammond and Ben Smith.
Hunters Hill thirds posted a solid 16-3 win while the Colts were once again impressive, winning 27-19.
Mark French led out fourth grade for his 300th appearance for Hunters Hill but couldn't prevent a 15-10 loss to Waverley. Fifth grade won 17-12 while sixths lost 10-0.

Training
The times for training have been put back to 7pm this season to assist players in getting there on time after work. Can we please all make sure that we are down the Oval by 6.45pm, boots on, ready to run. It’s hard for the coaches to get drills going with numbers still showing up late for training.
Also, if you can’t make training or are unavailable for a game, let your respective coaches know as early as possible. Training sessions are planned in advance and the more the coaches are aware of the numbers the better. When the season starts, you will need to contact the various Grade managers to make them aware of availability. A simple phone call, txt, or email is all that needs to be done. Contact numbers below:

Club Captain
For this CCC I thought I'd give you guys a quick overview at where the club is at, both on and off the field. In terms of club championship points we are currently sitting at fourth on the ladder with 747 points. Barker Old Boys are at the top with 928. Interestingly, the three teams we have already played sit at the bottom. Hornsby currently hold the wooden spoon with 208. Waverley sits just above on 386 and then UNSW with 453. The next few game against St Ives, Newport, Oatley and Briars are going to be a welcomed challenge.
This year seems to be the year of records. Frenchie just hit 300 solid games in as many years. Alex Light on the same day chalked up 100 first grade games. Congrats men on a fantastic effort for the club. After 2nd grades crappest game of the century, (0-0 draw against Hornsby), Ron White has looked back at results and there has only been 1 other time that’s happened in 2nd grade, Rd 5 v Newport in 1987. Note: Results only go back to 1972 at this stage, still missing 1997. I'd like to bring up another record (dare I say Guinness World Record) for the most scrums in one game of rugby in the same game, rumours are up to 75. And yes it is possible to have more than one scrum in a minute. Especially if the half continuously knocks it on at the base of the scrum.
Another important event of the week was ladies day. The turn out for ladies day 2010 was the best one yet! A couple of stats for ladies day. 38 bottles of champagne, 1 case of beer, 8 bottles of white, 2 bottles of vodka and 1 case of apple cider were downed by roughly 50 ladies. AND THAT WAS WELL BEFORE THE END OF FIRST GRADE. Congratulations ladies on turning up to make it such a great day! Party goers were also provided with fantastic music, food from Crust Pizza and the divine one minute angels! At the end of the day it was hard to get the WAGS to leave! Next year we want to make it an even bigger effort! Special thanks goes to the Vertoudakis family, Brian Walker and Matt McRae for their efforts behind the scenes and on the day. It was a pleasure that the WAGS of this club didn't have to lift a finger! This event also wouldn't of happened without the help from our sponsors, again Crust Pizza Gladesville for the tasty food and the Hunters Hill Hotel for supplying a free drink to ladies at the afters.
Still with my social co-ordinator hat on the next big event on the calendar is trivia night on the 3/07/2010. Put it in your diary now. You think ladies day was a big one? Think again! Current estimates for trivia night sit at 100 people.
Congrats on a great start to the season! GET TO TRAINING ON TUESDAY!
