Vs St Ives
Hunters Hill 1st Grade kept hold of 4th spot on the ladder after a close encounter away at St. Ives on Saturday.
Hillies didn't make the best start to the game, and found themselves down by a try early on. It looked like it would be another tough game, but Hunters Hill then took the game to St. Ives and Ben Bates pulled a try back after a long sprint down the touchline. Despite having most the possession, Hillies could not capitalize, and found themselves behind again after some good rucking by St. Ives. A converted try meant that Hunters Hill went into half time 14-5 down.
The 2nd 40 saw Hillies play some of the best rugby this year with No. 10 David Marshall finding space to offload to centres Warren Dowson and La La Havea. The forwards were disrupting the St. Ives breakdown, and jumpers Dean Thomson and Tom Kellaway were competitive in the every line out. Warren Dowson narrowed the points margin after scoring a penalty, and Jules Arndt scored a vital try after good mauling from the Hillies pack.
With the clock ticking down, Hillies got the winning try through David Marshall. A blitzing run through space after throwing a dummy, Marshall celebrated as he put the ball down. There were nervous moments in the final minutes, but the full time whistle blew and meant Hillies have now won four out of their six games so far this year, final score 18-14.
2nd Grade went down for the first time this year with a 14-5 lose. A try from Burzin Mehta, and good work from Thomas Cuniowski, centre Dave Bonner and returning prop Cam Van Oirschot were highlights in a close game.
3rds Grade kept up their habit of losing games narrowly, going down 19-12. Timmy Vewrtoudakis, Kit Baigent and outgoing Englishman Richard Smith all put in strong performances.
4th Grade grabbed a great win, 20-0. Tries from Liam Cooper, Andy Ball, Scott Liddicoat and full back Pat Feige gave the 4ths a well deserved win. Of note is that All 4th Grade's trys were scored by Cats.
The colts were once again unlucky and went down 24-17. They have now collected 6 Bonus points in 6 games, displaying how unlucky the team has been, and the wins will surely be coming soon. Scott Woodward, Alex Lloyd and John Ah Lam all had great games.
Finally, Hillies 5th Grade had a good 7-0 win and continue to field a strong line-up week in week out.

Training
The times for training have been put back to 7pm this season to assist players in getting there on time after work. Can we please all make sure that we are down the Oval by 6.45pm, boots on, ready to run. It’s hard for the coaches to get drills going with numbers still showing up late for training.
Also, if you can’t make training or are unavailable for a game, let your respective coaches know as early as possible. Training sessions are planned in advance and the more the coaches are aware of the numbers the better. When the season starts, you will need to contact the various Grade managers to make them aware of availability. A simple phone call, txt, or email is all that needs to be done. Contact numbers below:

Ladies Day
Ladies’ day 2010 was a resounding success. Such a success in fact, that 7 beautiful games of running rugby were ignored by the well-entertained wives, girlfriends and female friends of Hunters Hill Rugby.
A fantastic day of great food, limitless drinks, a sound track of 50% Beyoncé (thanks to Jules Arndt) and the occasional massage was enjoyed by all who attended. The newly discovered hit of vodka jelly shots will surely make an appearance at ladies’ days to come, and the staples of seafood, champagne and cupcakes were relished as usual.
The injured players roster including Matt Macrae and myself did a fine job to keep the day running smoothly and ensure every glass was full. The one-armed nature of Brian Walker’s barmanship was applauded and the half-arsed nature of James Lindfield’s service did not dissuade the ladies in the slightest. At the end of the day, as always, the only thing that mattered was the ladies’ opinions, and we could all enjoy the echoes of ‘best ladies day ever’ heard around Stade Boronia.
Club Captain
The year of the solid performers.
It seems to me that this year I constantly find myself saying "God, xyz has really developed, he used to be average, but now he's actually playing good footy". So in this CCC I want to acknowledge a number of players that I think have really taken a giant leap in terms of the their rugby ability. The first guy I want to mention is Chris Groves, last year Grovesy was in my record breaking 3rd Grade squad (16 wins in a row for anyone interested!). This year the giant tight head prop is playing 1st Grade and has become a regular in the line up. Playing 1st Grade is a massive step especially in speed, physicality and skill, some people when brought up to 1st grade often go missing, not the big man.
Chunks (Matty Shelton) is playing three games a week for Hunters Hill at the moment in under 85s, colts and 4th/5th grade. The man is on track to hit 100 games this season, a great honour in such a short space of time. Chunks came off the bench for 3rd Grade on the weekend to relieve some power walkers, and god he's really developed! Chunks was great in the scrums and was everywhere around the pitch! He's learnt a lot recently and has developed greatly.
Tom Kell, TK has returned to HH after a run of bad injuries (mainly associated with heartlege). TK before this year had never played 1s (correct me if I'm wrong). Like many in the club TK had a love of 4th grade and suddenly has found himself playing warp speed rugby. Tommy has been a dominant player in the first grade line up and playing some good solid footy. He's powerful runs, strong jumping in the line out and work rate around the ruck have been commendable! I even saw big TK get into a bit of a scuff. A scuff that allowed Lala to sail through to the posts!
The last one and I'm sure I've left people out is Kava. Kava the quite kid, is a talented footballer that is beginning to hit the mark at HH. Kava is playing two games a week currently (85s and 3s). I think Kava is more suited to the 85s style, he runs the ball hard and fast, scoring many tries for the Paul Shields outfit!
I will note that I haven't mentioned one back. I'll think a bit harder for next week!Signed by, you wouldn't Adam and Eve it by a real lemon squeezer
