HILLIES V HAWKESBURY VALLEY @ BORONIA: ROUND FIVE REVIEW

With the lovely Ladies of Hunters Hill Rugby on the sideline, every grade was dying to impress against the hard men of the Hawkesbury last Saturday. In securing a near perfect round, I am reliably informed that they did just that.

Fifth Grade had the opportunity to play on Boronia No. 1 and relished the exposure, showing marked improvement in a 12-7 loss, Chase Mason enjoying one of his many games on the day.

Fourth Grade secured their 20th consecutive victory in a 26-12 card-filled bruiser. Scrum-Captain-Coach-Inspiration Richie Colley was magnificent in a three try performance achieved before the half-time whistle. Joel Firth had the honour of scoring the bonus point try for his new club, and in doing so torpedoing the comeback of his old one. Fourth grade takes on a strong Brothers side this weekend and it promises to be a cracker.

Third Grade are cruising. Their 29-0 shut-out of Hawkesbury Valley continues their unbeaten run with Mason and Gelling star performers.

The Seconds showed for the second consecutive week that they can get out of a jam. With Andre Thomas pulling the strings and Casa crossing for the fifth consecutive weekend, the 2's continued on their merry way.

First Grade enjoyed a homecoming to their fortress and chose to cut loose after the rough and tumble of last weekend. Burzin "Bad Man" Mehta had a first grade debut to remember, bagging a hat-trick in an electric display. Dean Thomson was colossal in the line-out and ubiquitous in general play and the "Senior Pro" Alex Light had his best game in years. For the second time this season the 1s cracked 50 and in doing so capped off a wonderful day.

Four wins and three bonus points secured a near perfect round for the Black and Whites and in doing so gave a healthy boost to our club championship lead. A perfect round still eludes the Boronia Boys this season, let's grab one this weekend against the Brothers.

HILLIES V BROTHERS AT ROSEVILLE CHASE: ROUND SIX PREVIEW

Brothers at Roseville is traditionally a very tough fixture. With a particularly strong fourth grade outfit, as well as competitive First Grade and with a whole lot to prove, this weekend looms as a match for Hunters Hill to be on high alert.

It also provides another golden chance to gain further breathing space in the Club Championship race. Five weeks into the season and we have given ourselves a realistic chance to fulfil our goals. Let's continue to accumulate win+BPs and set ourselves up for a serious Club Championship run.

HUNTERS HILL LITE: UNDER 85kg

Round 2 Tuesday 12 May

Hunters Hill Lite 11 (Michael Kellaway, Tries Zane Thomas 2 goals) beat Dee Why 5

Another night fixture and another chance for the little guys to shine.

This time against a small Dee Why side our Lites again stood a foot taller on home turf. With Vitamin G levels being maintained with high gravy consumption on the sideline, the Lites lead by tough guys Zane Thomas and Michael Kellaway powered to an 11-5 win which catapults them into the top four. Well done boys!

Best and Fairest: 3- Robbie Woolley, 2- Taylor Spratt, 1- Nathan James

The clock is ticking on your opportunity to participate in what is easily rugby's fastest growing format. There are seven remaining fixtures in the regular season for Hunters Hill Lite, including two Wednesday fixtures that do not clash with regular training.

Next Game: Wednesday 20th May. Mosman vs. Hunters Hill @ Rawson Park, Cross St, Mosman.

*I am also still on the look out for an U85s media liaison to keep the club updated with the reports of their adventures.

LADIES DAY REVIEW

38 Ladies came down to enjoy the fun and sun at Boronia Park for Ladies Day 2009. The girls were treated to massages, music, fine dining and plenty of bubbly. Raffle prizes were a plenty, thanks to the kind donations of members of the club, with almost all the ladies ending up with a prize or two. Thanks to Nathan Michaels mum for the wonderful flowers on the day.

We were also lucky enough to see some spectacular games of rugby. Congratulations boys on winning four grades!

Thank you to all the people who volunteered their time on the day; it couldn’t have been a success without you. Special thanks goes to Matt Macrae, our bar tender, for ensuring that the Ladies never had a dry glass, with Liam, Oz, Corey, Alex V, Cyrus and Mike Keating lending a hand throughout the day.

Also to the flanno clad boys (carnie folk) who put up the tent, after learning which end of the sledgehammer to use, figuring out which knots were best (lots), against all odds it actually stayed up! Helped by some last minute strapping tape applied by Jordan, thank goodness the wind didn’t pick up.

CLUB CAPTAIN COLUMN

Despite numerous requests for another treatise on the finer points of our game, I will keep the CCC short this week.

I would like to thank those responsible for what was a fantastic Ladies Day at the weekend. Particular thanks must go to Danielle Cliff, whose contribution to the day was wonderful, despite the fact that she is probably the very Lady that Ladies Day should be put on for. I sure everyone will agree that the day was a further improvement on past years. The club is moving forward both on and off the field so that is fantastic. Thankyou to all the Ladies for their attendance, I was reliably informed by my people that it was a fun day on a beautiful Boronia Saturday.

There is one particular improvement on last year that should not go unnoticed. Last year against Balmain, we put on a disinterested performance and crashed out to the strains of Shania Twain's "Man I feel like a Woman." 'This time around we won all four Championship games and the main game by 50. Momentum boys.... next stop Roseville.

The hunt continues.
