HILLIES V BALMAIN @ BLACKMORE: ROUND TWELVE REVIEW

Sam Henry was the hero for Hunters Hill as First Grade snatched a thrilling draw against Balmain at Blackmore Oval at the weekend.

Trailing 15-18 as a very tight struggle drew to a close, the New Zealand born inside centre calmly slotted a 30 m drop goal to draw the scores level at 18 all before the referee called full-time. It could prove too be a vital moment in battle for the club Championship this season.

It had all started out so well for the Boronia-boys, taking a 15-0 lead early in the first half with prolific centre Dan Casa adding two further tries to his season tally which currently stands at a whopping 21. But the Hillies suffered a key injury to playmaker Dave Marshall early in the match and also lost two players to yellow cards during the tussle.

Hillies found themselves on the back foot for most of the second half, as wave after wave of Balmain attack threatened. While Henry's heartbreaker capped a fine all-round performance from the inside-centre, flankers Luke McLennan and Colman Taylor also served Hillies admirably in the loose forwards as they did just enough to avoid defeat against their bitter Leichhardt-based rivals.

The result leaves Hunters Hill First Grade a clear second on the table to the Merrylands Wolves, a side they play this week at home in what promises to be a blockbuster.

Hunters Hill were again well served in 2-5, securing four hard fought victories away from home. The Seconds, inspired by a double from crafty Number 10 Zane Thomas, snatched an important 17-10 win to ensure clubman Jesse Croucher's 100th match would be a memorable one.

The Thirds cantered to their 11th straight victory in a 21-7 win with 19 year old LaLa Havea and not 19 year old Tim Dodds the stars.

The Fourths managed a character filled 7-0 triumph with Tom Kellaway excelling in his freedom from injury and the referee’s whistle.

The Fifths also ran out winners 7-5 on the back of a Shane Phelan 5 pointer.

Four Victories and a draw leave this week's fixture against Merrylands at Boronia as a virtual play-off for the all important club championship lead.

HUNTERS HILL TRIVIA NIGHT REPORT!!!

It was a night of Trivia, infamous Doddsy quotes, massive bottles of scotch, mysteries (as in how did that get here officer?), stuffed animals, drinking beer through milk straws, Peter Allen look alikes, yes folks it had it all, even a marriage proposal at the end of the night. Alas this year did not feature the Verto brothers rapping, but in the end there could only be one team crowned as winners, and that was Norfolk Hope, yes we were amazed too. Their superior knowledge of cast members of Twilight, long serving prime ministers, Home and Away actresses turned radio stars, All Black point scorers, Womens Netball, Drug Cheats with the same name as current players (no not Doddsy) etc got them over the line and in the prizes.
A huge thank you to Rebecca French for organising and running the night, it was a huge success and in fact so successful it now makes you the prime suspect for future events! Thanks to Grovesy, Kasia and Panda for running the bar and finally thank you to everyone who donated gifts for the prizes.

CLUB CAPTAIN'S COLUMN

Trivia Night was a great success. Club Captain Column Quiz was a resounding failure.

The signed Dave Weston photograph will not be awarded. It will be destroyed.

All that needs to be said for this weekend is that Saturday is for all the marbles. In Club Championship terms, whoever prevails in this battle will likely prevail in the war.

Good luck Hunters.

The hunt continues

CLASH OF THE TITANS -  HUNTERS HILL DAD’S ARMY VS HUNTERS HILL “CATS”  (GOLDEN OLDIES)

Are you ready to rumble??????

Saturday the 11th of July will see the debut of the Hunters Hill Juniors Dad’s Army First 15. They are taking on the feared Hunters Hill Cats (Golden Oldies) and they desperately need your support. The majority of the dads are drawn from U9, 10 & 11 age groups, with the likes of McCormack, Johnson, Donnan, Lewis, Dodds, Gregory, Dufficy and Rennie signed up to do battle.

We would love for families to come and make an afternoon of it, to watch what could be best described as a game of entertaining rugby. (For moral purposes, teams request that heckling be kept to a minimum and not of a personal nature). Canteen and BBQ will be going and both teams will be sure to be having a beer after the game to celebrate/commiserate or generally embellish their performance. Kids are welcome to play a big game of touch football on No 2 after the match.

Anyone from the medical / health professions attending on the day, if you could make yourself known to organisers !  Wives of players please note the club has a bulk deal on ice from Shell on Ryde Road.

We're playing on Boronia  No 2 Oval, where the biggest test will be, can Shrek can still fit into his jersey. Kick off is at 2pm. Come along for a run or just a laugh and a beer.

If you are planning to come along to play for the Cats, please advise Pete McFarlane (McFarlaneP@conwag.com) so that we have some vague idea of the numbers that just might be turning up for the day.
