Hunters Hill 1st Grade kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a commanding performance against Hills on Saturday. Eight tries, six conversions and a penalty more then ensured the victory and bonus point. With the final result a resounding 55 -7 victory Looking unfazed by the new law variations , Hunters Hill picked Hills apart with a quick backline and mobile forward pack, dominating every aspect of the game. The tries were shared between forwards and backs, showing that there is a good balance to the side this season, and confidence is high. Tries were scored by James Hammond with three, Alex Vertoudakis two, Jordan Butler, Latu Havea and Matt Lane all grabbing one, with Sam Henry on fine kicking form kicking 7 from 9 .
2nd Grade showed they have a team of players knocking on the door of first grade with a solid 41-8 win . Hills had no answer to the Hunters Hill attack that was decisive and planned. Fly Half Bruce Purcell had a big part in the victory scoring a Try and kicking 4 goals. Dan Casa came off the bench to score two tries after already having scored 2 in 4th Grade to make a days tally of 4 Tries. Burzin Mehta scored one and Nathan Michael from fullback cut through for two tries.
3rd Grade was more like and arm wrestle than a rugby game with a low scoring hard defensive game. With the Hills ahead at 8 to 7 with 10 minutes to go Hunters Hill got a penalty goal kicked by Andre Thomas to go to the lead 10-8. With the game having run overtime by 2 minutes a penalty was awarded in front of the posts against Hunters Hill. With the full time siren sounding the kick went wide to give Hunters Hill a very close victory. The Thomas Family scored all the points with Zane Thomas scoring the try and Andre Thomas adding 5 points with the boot.
4th Grade continues an unbelievable winning streak making this 41 to nil victory there 17th on the trot. Trying scoring machine Pat (the Fridge) Feige adding two more tries to his season tally of 8. Other tries scored by Dan Casa 2 Coleman Taylor 2 and Brad Chalmers 2. Tom Kellaway added 3 goals.
5th Grade ran into an “all stars” Hills team put together to celebrate Hills 50th year in rugby. With a half time score of 26 Nil it looked like it could be a big loss however Hunters Hill went out in the second half and kept the all stars team to a even second half with a try each. Hunters Hill’s 5 points being scored by Shane Phelan.
Hunters Hill are now first on the table in 1st grade, 2nd Grad, 4th Grade and leading the club championship overall. A great start to the season. Next weeks game against local team Balmain is sure to be a hard fought game with both first grade teams being undefeated so far.
