Hunters Hill Rugby Club's hoodoo at Roseville Chase continued at the weekend with First Grade unable to defend a strong lead against a spirited Brothers side.
Despite conceding a very early try, the Black and Whites seemed to have control of the match throughout, regularly feeding a back-line that now includes new outside centre Dan Casa. The robust outside back has been in rare form in his first 5 weeks of rugby, crossing 13 times in the lower grades. His first appearance in First grade continued the trend, however his two try effort would not stop a powerful Brothers comeback. A frustrating 28-24 loss, albeit with two bonus points, leaves Hunters Hill in second place on the First Grade table.
In the other grades, the Seconds enjoyed open spaces in attack to record a dominant 52-0 victory with Chase Mason and Zane Thomas showing their undoubted class. The Thirds had to settle for a 19-0 victory in a injury-shortened match with rampaging South African Julian Hill cruelly brought down by a serious ankle injury. The Fourths remain undefeated, but only just, recording a 5 all draw to halt their win streak at 20. The Fifths went down 22-12 to Roseville.
A slightly disappointing weekend leaves Hunters Hill clinging to a slender Club Championship lead however they will welcome a return to Boronia this weekend against the students from UWS Hawkesbury.
