19/06/2010 Hunters vs UNSW

After the disappointing loss to Briars over the long weekend, Hillies needed to enter the 2nd half of the 2010 season on a high to state their intentions of a semi final place. Fortunately on Saturday, the team responded in the best way possible against the University of New South Wales.

In what was an amazing day for the club, as all 6 Grades won (the first time in the clubs history believe it or not), Hillies 1st grade showed why the rest of the season is going to be at the very least, entertaining. The team line-up saw a re-shuffle with a number of changes to the line-up which lost to Briars. Duncan Taylor, Burzin Mehta and David Marshall all returned to the back line, with Marshall slotting into No. 9 for the first time in a Hillies shirt. Alex Light returned to No. 8 to bring his much needed experiance and Nick Roach made his 1st Grade debut at Hooker.

Coach Peter Allen could not have hoped for a better response from the players as they took it to the Students of UNSW in the 1st half. Although conceding a penalty early on, Hillies spent the rest of the half attacking the oppositions try line. The constant pressure payed off, with Tom Kellaway, improving with each performance, crossing the line after some good ruck play from the forwards. Sammy Henry was on hand to convert a penalty and converted the try leaving the scores at 10-3 at half time. As they have so often managed to do this year, Hillies dropped off in the 2nd half and let UNSW back into the game. Although Kellaway managed a 2nd try after good work from Mehta and Ben Bates, Uni fought their way over the try line. After converting the try and scoring another penalty, Henry got Hillies noses in front 20-10, but Uni were not finished. Another try put them within a converted try of being in front. Luckily, Henry managed to put the game out of reach with another penalty. Hillies stay joint 3rd and play 5th placed Kings this Saturday.

2nd Grade continued to impress and stayed top of the ladder with a 32-10 win.

3rd Grade made it two wins on the bounce with a close and hard fought 12-10 victory.

4th Grade held onto 2nd place winning 19-5.

Colts closed in on 4th in the ladder with an impressive 41-17 victory.

And to round a great day in the history of Hunters Hill rugby, 5th Grade got up 12-0.

The club is now 2nd in the club Championship and have settled into division 2 in great style. This weekend see's Kings Old Boys visit Boronia Park.
