The bushfires have devasted communities up and down the east coast and elsewhere across the country.
As a community club, we feel it appropriate that Hunters Hill Rugby make a contribution. But rather than donate money, we thought it would be way better, and significantly more personal, if we were to focus on one community that has felt the full force of the disaster.
Our club made contact with the Broulee Dolphins Rugby Club from south coast NSW, a town right in the middle of one of the bigger blazes.
The Dolphins were already planning a weekend for the 21st of March to celebrate 30 years at their current oval in Broulee. They are super-keen for our club to be part of this event. At this point, we are working on taking the following sides down for a bit of friendly rugby, a whole stack of socialising and a big show of solidarity.
Juniors: Under 8’s, Under 10’s, Under 13’s, Under 15’s
Mens: Possibly a 4ths or 5ths Seniors team (unfortunately we have a scheduled trial for the Seniors that weekend)
Womens: Both our Women’s 7’s teams to ‘wow’ the locals in a demo match
Cats: the return to the playing fields for our Over 35’s Cats team
So, what we want to do is show our support for our Country Rugby cousins, play (or watch) some fun rugby and inject a bit of cash into the district. All this while having a bloody great time
